which is the best authoring program?

i would like to transfer my camcorder tapes to dvd and other video files of various formats, including divx. what is the best program for doing this? i was looking at ulead dvd movie factory v2.

For DIVX/XVID a popular programl is GKNOT (free) used in conjunction with Virtualdubmod (free)

For converting dv material to mpeg-2 I have heard good reports about Procoder (commercial software).
