    authoring with ac3 audio

If I make an mpeg2 file from dvd, is it possible to remove the stereo audio track from the mpeg2 file, rip the original ac3 5.1 from the dvd and then combine both when authoring?

    what software do I use?

is there a step by step guide?

    Please help!

It's possible but no standalones play svcd with ac3.

You might be able to do it in tmpgencs mpeg tools. Haven't tried it with ac3 though
    - The question is: Why?

      Your posting is somewhat unclear.

What do you ultimately desire to create?:

      1) A DVD with DVD structure

      2) A DVD containing SVCDs

      3) SVCDs burned to CD-Rs

      4) MPEG-2 videos saved to and for playback on your hard drive

thanks guy's what I want to do is create a dvd, for use in a standalone player that uses mpeg2 video and ac3 audio.

Using a dvd file structure not svcd.

what video format does dvd use, I was under the impression that it was mpeg2.

It is, any dvd-authoring software will do the trick...

great, what do I use to rip the ac3 track?

what would quality be like compared to using something like dvdshrink.

rip the dvd data to hdd

to extract the ac3 stream from the original vob files, use either *stream processing* in rippers like smartripper or dvddecrypter while ripping the data to hdd or rip the entire title to dvd and let dvd2avi extract the ac3 streams
