How to make 16:9 to letterbox?

i have a dvd in widescreen (16:9 ratio). when it's played on my standard tv, the screen somehow looks like blowed up. does anyone know how i can make a copy so it can be played as letterbox mode on standard tv?

You probably need to change the settings on your DVD player - display settings and set the output to 4:3 LB. At least my DVD player has that setting. Otherwise can't help you.
