How much video can fit on a DVD?

Hello, I have some tapes that I want to import to DVD. The tapes are recorded in EP mode, so the quality isn't great to start out with, meaning I can use lower compression. Assuming audio of 192 k, how much video would fit on a single DVD-R?

As of right now, a regular DVD has a capacity of 4.7 GB. By April you might be able to get one that is capable of holding 9 GB of data (dual layer disks).

This is just a quick reply as I'm short of time..

If you encode your video with TMPEG or other software
to VCD or SVCD you can then use TMPEG DVD author
to create menus etc, use nero or whatever to burn the
      DVD folders.

      You'll be able to fit between 5 - 7 hours to a DVD-R
      (sometimes even longer)

Quality is only as good as VCD/SVCD but for some
videos that is good enough, afterall some videos
the quality is bad anyway and it's not worth polishing
      a turd.

(Depending on DVD disc quality as cheap ones are crap
and can only hold around 3.8 GB, better quality DVD-/+R
      is around 4.2 GB)

Remember to adjust the GOP settings in TMPEG (click Expert)
Set 18 for NTSC and if your format is PAL it's 15 for PAL.

If you have a mix of video's like VCD and SVCD
you can use TMPEG author to still make a DVD folder,
just dont add a few VCD and SVCD videos to the same track,

      Example:

      10 videos = 5 VCD + 5 SVCD
I would add the 5 VCD format videos then I would make a
new track and add the SVCD videos.

There is other software that does this but this method is
easy and there is never any lip sync problems unlike someother
software made by ULEAD that gives audio sync problems
that can be 10 minutes out from the video.
