Burn VCD to DVD

Hello everybody! greetings from Italy

I'm new of this forum and first of all I apologize for
my English...
I have some VCD's (Live concert of Springsteen) and I'd like to put them together into a DVD.
I read on this forum that there's no reason to convert them
into mpeg2 format DVD ,(this will not improve the quality) but only burn them to DVD with the correct structure....(it's correct? )

Well I copied the .DAT files from VCD with Isobuster , and
then I tried to put them in TMPGen author but an error occurred
(the GOP frame exceed the standard....probably a non standard DVD will be created if you continue....more or less) . My format is PAL

Someone can help me and explain how to continue the process...

PS : With Sonic MYDVD there's not this problem but the output
file is very long! Probably the program converts the VCD in mpg2 DVD? There is a way to tell to MYDVD not to convert in mpg2 file?

Using TMPEG encoder...
Decide on PAL or NTSC format.

01 - Project Wizard
02 - Select VCD (PAL OR NTSC)
03 - Add your video
04 - Click NEXT
05 - Click NEXT again
06 - On bitrate settings click EXPERT
07 - Click on GOP Structure
08 - Change "MAX number of frames in a GOP"
----- To 15 for PAL or 18 for NTSC
09 - Click OK
10 - Click NEXT
11 - Click OK

After encoding add the video into TMPEG Author
as this will not encode the files, so you will be able to
make a DVD that hold about 5 - 7 hours.

Now TMPGEnc Author recognizes the video without errors.
One more question please.
I tried to put the three video files into one,using TMPGEnc Merge & Cut function.
The program creates the video stream,but when i Try to reproduce it with mediaplayer or another player,the audio stops after 1 hour more or less.
If I play the three file one at the time , there are not problems.

I select type MPEG -1 System (automatic) in the merge & cut section of TMPGEnc .
Each file has these fatures:Video-CD PAL (MPEG-1 352x288 25fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 224kbps).

Can You help me? Thanks!

Instead of doing that, use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (Different than "TMPGEnc") to load the three videos into either ONE trakc, or INDIVIDUAL tracks...

There is no need to merge the three file with TMPGEnc , TMPGenc Author is more than sufficient.

Ehm... i have another question about my video..
As I said I have not converted the VCD file to DVD , but I burned
the original files in a DVD structure.
The DVD Player ,seems to read it as a DVD (the light 'DVD' is on)
but according to you,if the player is not able to read VCD,I can
watch it? Or I wiil able to listen the audio only?

In DVDR-help you can find a list of DVD Players that can actually play VCD's. There aren't many of them...and they mostly seem to be Phillips.

More support VCD then SVCD in the UK, but this is not the case
as your making a DVD, meaning the DVD can support, many bitrates of MPEG-1/MPEG-2 (as long as it's authored correctly)
same goes for audio.

So , If I put my VCD files in a DVD structure , without convert them in MPEG-2 (Dvd) , wiil I be able to see them on a Dvd player
that doesn't support VCD,or does it depend from kind and model of player?

As long as your DVDPlayer supports DVD then it will play,
remember to Author it as a DVD using TMPGEnc DVD Author
then it will not get re-encoded to a huge DVD format.
