    Problem with TMPGEnc

    I have found that after i have converted my .avi files to .mpg using TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 the playback is juddery.Does anybody know why the converted files are being affected in this way?

    What player are you using?
    Are you running other apps and what CPU/memory have you got?
    This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

      I use Windows media player to play back the files and have over 40GB of free space. My PC has a Pentium 4 processor.I dont run any other applications when i'm converting the files.

        What framerate are the original .AVI's? also NTSC/PAL?
        What format are you converting then to?

          I've converted files with lots of different frame rates and i've converted them to both NTSC and PAL.I convert them to MPEG-2.

              Yes but you've clearly not read my answer "I've converted files with lots of different frame rates "

                To ZippyEFC

                In light of the fact that you are converting from .AVI to MPEG2 and are using TMPGEnc to do so, I'd suggest that you apply TMPGEnc's Deinterlace filter (Even field adaptation) to eliminate the jitters.

                Let us know of your success ;>}

                    WMP I've heard before has probs with mpegs. What are you viewing your film in?
                    Did they jitter when viewing in TMPGEnc?

                      I normally view the files with WMP but i have tried Real Player and Power Cinema but i still get juddery playback.I think this is an encoding problem rather than a player problem as i get juddery playback after i have burnt the films to disc. Thanks for your help.

                        I agree that it sounds like encoding. I read elsewhere that tweaking Priority in Environment settings helps performance in TMPGEnc.

                          I am encoding the same film at the moment with the Cyber link MPEG-2 decoder set to higher priority, hopefully that will cure it.

                          I'll let you know

                            Did you SPECIFICALLY set the filter for "Even field adaptation" (and made certain to put a checkmark next to the filter)?
