Editing DVD RAM for E50

Hi,
I'm a newcomer to DVD recording having recently bought a Panasonic E50. I can edit the .vro files from the RAM disc using TMPGEnc DVD Author by renaming them as mpg's and then burning onto -R disc. This seems to work OK.

What I'd like to do is to sometimes burn to RAM rather than wasting a -R, but the E50 won't read the disc. Presumably, this is because the .bup & .ifo files are no longer correct.

Does anyone know how to recreate a valid file structure on RAM discs?

I'm intrigued. Have you tried playing the new DVD-R disc you made from the vro files in a normal set top DVD player? I wonder if you have actually made a try conversion and a DVD compliant disc, or have you just moved the vro file system onto a DVD-R disc?

If you're still using the original .IFO/.BUP files with the edited video files it won't be correct anymore. You need to open the .VRO files in an app that can open them "as is" without renaming, like Vision Express or MPEG Video Wizard. I have an E50 and these apps do a nice job opening and saving the files. Once it's edited you need to author using an app that can handle AC3 (Dolby Digital) audio, unless you've set up the E50 to use LPCM audio which is uncompressed. If it's AC3 an option you have is to convert the audio to Layer 2 (compressed) when you save the .MPG after making your changes. Then you should be able to use almost any authoring app to generate the files for burning (.VOB, .IFO, .BUP).
