    Audio dropping out ?

Ripped with DVD Decrypter, mounted, and then reauthored with DVD Shrink and burned with Roxio. Kept the main movie only, chose 5.1 audio when reauthoring and I did chop out the first and last 3 chapters as they were not needed.
Playback of this disc is fine on a DVD player that is connected to a stereo receiver via RCA cable. However, when I attempt playback on a newer DVD player that is connected to an A/V receiver via optical audio output, the audio intermittently drops out. I tried changing some of the audio options on the DVD player to no avail. Anyone had this experience or have any ideas? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm not entirely convinced the optical lead carries the audio. S-video doesn't. Have you tried RCA leads for the audio?

The same disc will work without a problem on a DVD player which is using RCA cables for audio. The set top DVD player that is giving me audio probs is using component video and optical audio. I'm positive in this case that the optical lead is carrying the audio since audio and video are totally separate. Actually, the component video cables are connected directly to the TV and the optical audio cable is connected directly to the A/V receiver. Thanks

I may have just found the problem. When reauthoring, there is an option in DVD shrink for audio - you can choose "AC3" or "AC3 or LPCM" I had chosen only "AC3". I'm going to try to re-reauthor using the "AC3 or LPCM" option, then reburn and we'll see.

That didn't work. Anyone? I'm going to have a friend of mine try a different player with optical audio out.

not an earthing problem by any chance? - some devices don't have a mains earth.
try any shielded connect between the two?

Probably not a grounding problem since the original DVD has no audio issue in the same player. Only the backup has a problem. I think something is going wrong in the encoding process.....just not sure what. I'm surprised that no one else has experienced this since I used the guide at doom9 for the process - I'm sure other people have used this guide - and many people use optical audio these days.

                maybe not - perhaps you're a pioneer
please let us know how you get on.

A shot in the dark - guess it isn't a media problem with your blank/player? tried a RW?

That's an excellent suggestion. I will try that ASAP....thanks.

....and I hope that I am not a pioneer.

The set top player is the problem. Its a JVC. Tested the same disc in a Pioneer with optical audio out and had no problem.
