Davidra, are you capturing uncompressed? I've heard mention of Timebase Correctors but it would be a shame to buy some expensive add-on if just tweaking some settings would achieve acceptable results.
Also, have you made sure there are as few other processes running a possible?

Incognito, rereading your post sounds as though that wrapper might be the thing you need then. btw TMPGEnc DVD Author is brilliant

I've tried capturing with Sonic, ATI and Roxio software, directly, and have tried both compressed and uncompressed. Always get the same view on the monitor even before capturing, and yes, I still get the interference after it's captured and burned and played on a TV. Since I'm seeing it on the monitor, before even capturing, suggests to me that it's a tape/capture problem as opposed to a software problem. I've tried a bunch of different VCRs and some tapes just do this (not all do; ones that have been previously dubbed are the worst). I'll be glad to try some other settings, but the settings affect the capture and I'm seeing the problem before even capturing....does that make sense? That's why I figured the quality of the source was the issue, and this might be fixed with TBC.....Rick

        Solution?

So, is there any solution for this problem? I would really like to convert my home videos to DVD before they are junk...

I'm stumped too, but it looks like the only way to find out is to buy a TBC and give it a try, because nobody around here rents them......

            Hello!
Also a newbie to this forum.
IncognitoDVD, I have the same capture card, and used it for the first time last week along with the Mediostream neoDVD standard software that came in the CD. I used an RCA cable plug for composite video and the RCA adapter for the sound card Line In input. It captured the video pretty well from my VHC-C camera. At the time for recording to my DVD burner using DVD-R, the software did not recognized my DVD drive, only the CD burner. I downloaded the neoDVDplus trial and solved the problem.

Davidra, I gotta agree with you - if you're getting the effect merely monitoring, it sounds more a hardware prob. I hope a TBC will help.
Incognito, are there no sub-menus in Roxio that can be reconfigured for bitrate and/or resolution?

                pcedpr...........Really? neoDVDplus solved your problem?
Nice to see someone else with the same card....
where did you get neoDVDplus from?
Also, do you have onboard video and sound, or individual cards?

                  Hi IncognitoDVD,

If you have capturing problems, you should use the Mediostream neoDVD standard v.4 included in the CD with your card. It worked for me. But I had to download the latest version from Mediostream neoDVDplus v.5 because the v.4 didn't want to recognized my DVD burner. After capturing with v.4. I used the v.5 for recording. Later I tried to capture with v.5 without sucess.
The Mediostream neoDVDplus v.5 is located here:

You also should have your HDD defragmented before the process.
                  Hope this helps.

I have been slowly converting my old 80's era home videos to DVD

Using my ati capture software in 320 x 480 using mpeg 2.

Tmpgenc dvd author to create moving menues and the like.

I believe you are dropping frames, your capture software should be telling you if you if this is so. If so - your capture resolution is probably too high. VHS is only like 300 lines. You will not improve the quality of the finished dvd by capturing pixels that are not present in the source. Its sorta like when people would brag about how great vhs movies looked on their 1000 line tv. Same as it does on a 300 line tv. Garbage in... Dont be discouraged however. My finished dvd's are indistinguishable from the original vhs, even though they are "low" resolution.

Make sure to encode interlaced (as you will be presumably playing back to a tv) and dont use the 3/2 pulldown.

                      Good luck.

I haven't had time to do much with this issue, but am now thinking about buying a AverMedia EZDVD USB 2.0 capture device...any thoughts or comments?

I looked it up on Google and DVDRhelp and found several good reveiws...anyone ever try one?

A lot of folk get by quite well with the USB devices but aren't you simply converting from PCI to USB with your choice?
The Dazzle also gets good reviews.

I'll vouch for Pinnacle's Dazzle DVC-150 with USB2 connection...but if you don't already have a DV vidcam, a little extra money ($500) will get you a Sony DV Camcorder with analog throughput....and feeding DV thru the firewire is foolproof.

What about the ADS Instant TV....I see that it captures to AVI, mpeg1, mpeg2, etc.
Has anyone used one of these with any success?
