Multiple VOBs to DVD & Burning

Friends,

I've been using dvd xcopy platinium to backup my dvds with success. There's been some dvds like superman I, or Rocky I that wouldn't allow me to back them up. Not sure if its the dvd media.

Anyways, hopefully someone will be able to give it to me straight on this process. I've been reading alot of discussions on vobs, dvd authoring etc..etc.. My questions are as followed:


I. Whats the difference between using smart ripper, dvd shrink, or just copying the video/audio folder to the local hard drive and then burning?

II. I want to backup my dvd collection of Law and Order. Using smart ripper it only grabs the first episode. How do I grab all episodes on that one dvd and burn to backup?

III. How do I take multiple vob files and burn to dvd? What program is the best and easiest - Nero or EZ Cd Creator?

Neither - Use "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (Different than "TMPGEnc" and "TMPGEncPlus")

Thank You for the information. I took a look at the TMPGE and the program looks interesting and might help in the future. The vob files are small enough to fit on 1 dvd w/o having to compress or edit. I noticed that Nero has a feature that will allow me to burn the vob directly to the dvd. The only problem that I see is that when you put the dvd into a player you have to select from the folder to start the movie. How do set it up for the dvd to start playing automatically?

I hope you looked at the CORRECT program (which certainly can be used for your stated purpose), "TMPGEnc DVD Author" (Different than "TMPGEnc" and "TMPGEncPlus")...

Yes, I believe that I've the right program to do the job, but I will verify this make sure I didn't dl the wrong app.

When I created the project and it asked me for the .vob files from the other folders I had error messages pop-up. Can't recall the error but after I went thru the whole process then burned it to the dvd - the movies would play and then slow down. I know that I'm doing something wrong.

I believe when I would select .vob from each folder I would recieve a message "do you want to over write". Do I need to make separate folders for each movie .vob?

The .vob files are extracted to the folder I created. Only .vob files are in this folder. I take it that TMPGE will join these files together? or write out the ts_info file? I don't need TMPGE changing anything. Just

In order for ANYONE to possibly provide you with meaningful assistance:

1) PLEASE use the FULL name of the program you are using, to avoid any FURTHER confusion

I will gather the information and you can digist it from there. Sorry, but the lack of info. hencefourth I'm at work and not by my workstation at home.

All I know is the client didn't like the vob files and came up with messages regarding to the format. When I stepped thru the whole process, burned the dvd, the movie was choppy.

Since you be the expert of this I would imagine you might know whats going on.

SmartRipper and DVD Shrink will remove the copy protection from the original commercial DVD. You most likely will NOT have successful results by just "Copying" the files from the disk to your HD to burn if the DVD is copy protected.

I believe DVD Shrink would be the simplest program to use for this task.

I would avoid SmartRipper it's been many years since it's been updated. Go with DVDDecrypter.

If you've got Nero Vision Express you may want to try that for stacking all manner of AVI, VOB's etc. (in any combination), you can merge them, add chapter stops and create a menu if you like. It's fairly easy to use and can provide decent results (sometimes). Let your eyes be the judge. It may suit your needs.

Thank You for the information and I will look into this. The only thing I want to accomplish is take 6 dvds and put them onto one dvd. The rippe'd .vob files fit w/o any problems onto the one dvd so there's no special conversion to be made.

I was using the client TMPGE Authoring and it seems to me not user friendly. I am hoping that nero vision is much easier to work with importing the .vob files and burning to cd.

I don't need anything fancy, just basic. Put the dvd into the player and each .vob file plays right after another.

So you say use dvdcrypter and nero vision express?

In NVE:

- Make DVD -> DVD-Video
- Add Video Files, stack your VOB's
- On the left hit "merge" after all are added
- On the bottom hit 'More' and untick 'menu' (keep it simple)
- Create some chapters

I did what you instructed and ran into an error when merging the vob files. My question is - Do I need to merge the vob files in order for them to play on the dvd or can they just be added?
