    How do I translate subttitles?

Hello! First of all, i want you to know that i'm really new at the world of DVD creation in general, so i might say foolish things as well.
What i really want to know is: when i wanna create a Dvd, and i dont have the subtitles of the film, the best way to do it,is finding the subtitles around the web on English translating them into the language i prefer, checking for corrections of course, and then attach them to the Dvd and burn them togehter?
If not how else can i do it? And could you suggest me of some Free or cheap and good programs that i could use in order to create a Dvd. and what programs can i use in odrer to ad subtitles to it and sinchronize them?

    Thank you!

I dont really know how this works so thats why i'm asking.
So having the DVD means tha inside in a file as the subtitles as well?
and if so tha means the i can extract them and tranform or translate the text any way i want and then burn it on a new DVD?
I'm asking cuz i'm really amateur to it.

      Thanx

I've got a couple of Japanese DVDs with no English subtitles on them so it's entirely possible.
