Distorted color and video/sound sync problems

I just burnt Lord of the Rings on to a DVD+RW disc and played it on my stand alone DVD player. When I first downloaded the movie in avi format the color was great and the video and sound were in perfect sync. But after I converted the avi file to mpg2 using TMPGEnc the color will get a pink cast to it and then it will go back to normal for a few minutes. It keeps doing that throughout the whole movie. Also the video and sound will be in sync and the beginning ofthe movie but at the end it is like a second or 2 off. I used the high quality setting in TMPGEnc when I converted the file. I used Ulead to author and burn the movie to DVD. How can I fix the color and video/sound sync problem? Is there any other program that you can suggest to me that I can use to covert avi to mpg2 other than TMPGEnc?
