    created mpegs have no sound.

    hi
this is probably a codec issue.
just tried to create a couple of mpeg files for dvd authoring using tmpg.

converting from an avi, when using tmpg's wizard selecting 'cbr linear pcm audio' auto selects the outputed file size to be 122%! (5gb)

if i select 'cbr mpeg-1 layer II audio (mp2) the file size is correct but the finished mpeg has no sound.

here are gspot's results on the finished mpeg video file -

DirectShow claims to be able to play the file. The following combination of filters were used:

    {G:\movies\*******.mpg} (Audio Source)
    {MainConcept MPEG Splitter} (Audio Splitter)
    {MPEG Audio Decoder} (Audio Decoder)
    {Default DirectSound Device} (Audio Renderer)

the original avi file of the 2 movies i've tried so far are both Xvid Ac3 files. the avi's play fine.

    thanks for any help.

    **edit**
just installed the latest ffdshow to render the audio, gspot recognises ffdshow as decoder but still no sound.

I'm not promising this will work but one of Setarip's 'fixes' is,

"If it proves to be .AC3:

In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to one greater than the highest priority of listed items.. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input..."
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!

Additionally, you may find that the .AC3 audiostream needs to have its header corrected, by using "AC3Fix".

Also, if not already done, install an XviD codec...

          didnt work
i tried ac3 fix, changed priority in environment settings, removed power dvd codec it was using and installed latest ac3 codec.
downloaded Avi to MPEG converter 1.5. it converted and played back the mpg file perfectly. though it put the text 'unregistered' on every frame

heres a screenshot of the 13 mb i converted to test -

          this is baffling me.

          cheers
