Fellow Forum Members:
I've got a suggestion. It appears to me that there is a significant gap in DVD knowledge amongst the members of this forum. There are the "Lightning UK's" amongst the crowd who are obviously well versed in DVD technology, ripping, encoding, and it's general data manipulation.........And then there are the newbies.......totally clueless users who don't know the first thing about the DVD standard, aspect ratios, IFO editing, .... you get the picture.
So, in an effort to help the newbies, and minimize the amount of time that the accomplished DVD rippers are spending answering the same questions over and over, I am proposing that we start to colloborate on techniques used for creating DVD Backups to DVD-R.
Specifically, I am suggesting that the moderators create a new topic within this board dedicated to the posting of explicit "recipes" for backing up individual DVD movies. Within this new board, seperate threads could be dedicated to individual movies. Within each movie thread, an accomplished DVD Ripper (Lightning UK! or anyone else with a successful track record) could post the exact steps (in excruciating detail) that they took to reduce the movie down to a file size less than 4.7 GB (DVD-R standard), while still maintaining 100% video quality and only 1 audio soundtrack (5.1 or 2 channel)
Once this process begins, we can start to standardize the programs used in the DVD manipulation (DVD Decrypter + IFOEdit + Prassi PrimoDVD?), and further standardize the completed 4.7GB movie output.
I hope this doesn't sound too far fetched, but I think that this forum is an awesome location for information exchange, and I'd like to do my part to help make it more efficient. Please reply to this and lets talk this through. Thanks.
