    Copying a DVD

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I'm trying to learn how to copy a dvd.
I've tried using smart ripper but without success.
Does anyone have a step by step process? thanks.

Have you bothered to look at the digital-digest tutorials?

They are very precise and work fine.

I've read some but they don't give you every minute detail.
They give a general set of directions. Like...

"Rip the dvd onto your hard drive then burn it back to a dvd-r."

This doesn't really tell me anything. I need step by step directions otherwise all I'll get is coasters.

Which tutorial have you used and how many successful burns has it yielded?

      Thanks for the feedback.

Smartripper works well for me and won't be replaced until it fails to rip certain DVDs, which I've not encountered yet so far.

The answer to your question has already been answered in this thread.

If the details shown in those guides are not detailed enough, then perhaps you should consider selling your A03 as it would appear this game is not for you.

Have you even bothered to look?

Well have to agree to differ then.

I used them as a "monkey see, monkey do" guide. ie for full guidance, and they do exactly that.

The guides on the URL I gave are pretty comprehensive on how to rip your DVDs for all eventuality.

What is it you dont understand? To post something saying "I want exact instructions" is very vague. (I take it you dont need advice on how to switch on your PC, or insert a dvd into your drive!) There are many processes you need to go through. Where exactly are you getting stuck?

Still too vague. If you want me to help you, please give specifics.

Before you ven rip the DVD, you must have done some important decisions on how you will tackle the copy. Have you done so? What exactly have you ripped with smart ripper? By that I mean M2V/ac3, Vob files for film, complete rip of disc?

Without knowing what you have, and what you have done, with file size details etc, I will not be drawn into this any further.

I will presume the file size of the .m2v and .ac3 is less than 4.5 gig. If it isn't you will have more work than what I describe.

There are many authoring packages out there. I have tried a few, but have found SpruceUp to be the most stable and easiest to use. Its not the most compresensive, but....

OK firstly, rename the .ac3 file to the same name as your M2v file.

                          eg myrip.m2v, myrip.ac3

                          Open SprucUp.

                          Select import files.

                          Select your m2v file.

After a short while, SpruceUp will accept the file into its media folder.

If you just want to play the film with no chapters, just drag the film into "first play" and select export. Save "title" if you want to use external burning software, or select youer burner to burn direct to DVD-R from Spruce Up.

Working with Menus and chapters, is extremely easy in this package. I would suggest you experiment yourself, by double clicking on the media file within spruceup, which will open the chapter slection bookmarks. This part is very easy, and will allow you to bookmark with film images (though still only).

I'll let you try this first...

Whilst I would concur, SpruceUp is not listed inn those guides - but DVDit is! Software that I dont like - hence the change.

Hmmm! I thought I had already sent this reply!

                              Oh well...

Depends on what you mean by "best".

Smart Ripper is the easiest to use, so use this by default.

However Vstrip is more powerful. Ive only come across 2 films Smart ripper couldn't handle to date.
