    Authoring using AVI files

Okay I have xVid avi movie files which I want to combine and then burn using WinDVD.lets look at an example for clarity.

    Movie A.part1.xvid.avi
    Movie A.part2.xvid.avi
    Movie B.part1.xvid.avi
    Movie B.part2.xvid.avi

I want to put both movies onto a single DVD and use WinDVD to author them, the problem is that WinDVD will recognise all 4 files as separate chapters and I will have to goto the menu to play the each part of the movie, so I want to join the two parts of the movie first for continuos play and then burn them using WinDVD.

Now I have few options :

    1) Combine avi files and then use the WinDVD to burn them (can avi2mpg2 do that????, havent tried it). I will have to choose which movie to play once only.
    eg.
    Movie A.full.xvid.avi or Movie A.full.xvid.mpg
    Movie B.full.xvid.avi or Movie B.full.xvid.mpg

.......mpg is mpeg2 for dvd authoring

    2) Burn them as it is and then change the menus later(using pgcedit) so that the second part of movie is played automatically.

    3) Goto the menus manually to play second part after one part is over.(not preferred)

While authoring a movie using WinDVD 2.5 there is a setting for audio which specifies, LPCM or MPEG, which one shall i use (original avi contains MP3 audio)which one is better.

Does anyone has better options/comments on achieving this with minimum losses in audio/video quality while conversion.

    Thanks,

    Don't use WinAVI.
I would join the two parts of movie A in virtualdub, then frameserve to an encoder, to produce mpeg A.
Do the same for movie B.
Author movie A and B in something like DVDLab or Tmpgenc DVD Author.

no need to use vdub, they can be joined with tmpgenc dvd author by "adding file", NOT "add new track"

Ahhhh, that explains it. I thought you had that one case which caused you to go around the bend.

                    Later.

Okay One hour spent on DVDlab Studio and there I was a clear winner, I just made a DVD for three movies with Menus and Chapters using DVDlab.

But i have to say thanks to "reboot" and his guide without which I would have taken ages, thanks Jim aka reboot.
