Changing Aspect Ratio On DVd's

Hello
Can anybody help ?
I am using various programs to convert encode and burn DVD's (TMPG DVD Authourer, Win AVI converter, DVD Encrypter Nero Burning ETC )
But can anybody tell me if there is a program with which I can encode a 16:9 DVD back to 4:3.
As everybody is aware when playing some widescreen DVD's the letterbox is so large the actual picture is only in the middle third of the screen.
I realise I would lose some detail from the edges but would prefer to see the film full screen as my TV is not that large !

tmpgenc will do it, use "full screen" , under "video arrange method", under "advanced"

As a beginner to all this video stuff can you help further !
Do I need to convert the DVD to an AVI first as I cant seem to get TMPG Encoder to open a DVD.
I have tried to convert it using Win AVI converter but am told I need the DivX AVI codec --- Please advise !

Have you simply tried to alter the stream atrributes in the IFOs to 4:3?

Open your DVD in PgcEdit. Double click on the movie title. Now click Domain Stream Attributes and tick 4:3. Save and see if that works.

I will obtain the program tmg edit and try that !
Will that allow the dvd to play full screen on my TV or is that fix just to allow it full screen on my PC !!
Sorry if that sounds vague !!!

PGC edit is just a little complicated at first
How do I open the DVD - Do I have to have it on the PC or will it open it off disc ?

If you want to save any changes/edits with PgcEdit, you need to have the DVD on your harddrive.

in Pgc editor window, using Preview cell(this buttomreview PGC),
i saw the preview window before and after the changes and really was changed

Your screenshots from PgcEdit's BMP button are equal because they come from the same video source.
