Easy to answer Q: How to set Root Menu . . .

Hi all,

Think this should be a very to easy to answer question for anyone in the know. How can i set the Root and Title Menu settings on a ripped DVD. Just i ripped a DVD used Vob Blanker to get rid of bits then when i use DVD Shrink it sets the Root Menu to the film rather than the options bit at the start so when you load the DVD it goes straight to the film . .
. . . have looked at ifoedit but can't figure out if its what i need or even how it works really . . .

Please post your IFOs (zip them up). DVD Shrink can not set a title to a menu (nothing can).

Also load up the ripped project in PgcEdit and do an Info - DVD Commands, save the file and include that to your ZIP.

In essence, however, you can run PgcEdit's Jump to PGC Upon Insert macro on your DVD - guide on the PgcEdit site.

Cheers for the reply seems your the only person i can find whos got a clue of how to help; tryed loads of forums, or it may just be i have bad luck . . .

Either way did all the things you ask but this stuff is well over my head now, never used PgcEdit before, when i loaded it have me a few possibly error message pop ups . . . anyway stuff is attached.

OK. I want you to copy these IFOs and BUPs to your project folder. Don't worry if they don't work, you can always download the IFOs from what you posted here.

They will take you to the root menu.

Siswell, read my first post. PgcEdit has a macro called Jump to PGC Upon Insert (in its PGC menu).

What you do is simply trace the DVD through. OK, it hits the title first. So, I simply let the title "run" till it did what titles inevitably do - go back to a menu. I then ran the macro. PgcEdit entered in the registers and made sure you jumped there first.

Lol you got to love these guides! Obviously made for the begineers! CAn't even find a load of the menus mentioned let alone figure out what i'm meant to be doing!

The idea is to be practical about it all. The great part about that macro is it lets you select audioo and subtitles, returning to the main menu and then run the macro, so every DVD can start just the way you like it to.

Thank r0lZ and the theoretical ideas proposed, especially by 2COOL , for this great macro.

LOL, finally think i got it sorted. Only takes me three times as long to make a DVD but sure that will get less once i get use to the process. Is there any need to set default language/subtitles or is that just for people who want to be different from the defaults?

Only for people who want the latter. I do find it useful to set "none" for subtitles as often, in poorly authored DVDs, the "forced stream" (subbies which show when foreign languages are spoken in an English language movie) may not be selected.

Also, in any disk with a DTS audio track, I always run through the audio menu and enable this, as I always listen to the DTS track in preference to DD. But this may not be your preference or your system may not handle it. So, check for yourself on this one.
