Audio Frame Rates Converting XVid to DVD

    Hi guys,

I have an XVid movie I want to put onto a dvd and the problem I have is that the audio is ac3 5.1 Dolby Digital, which I would like to keep. I can demux the audio in VirtualDubMod and then convert the movie in Procoder but the XVid has a frame rate of 23.976fps wheras I need PAL which is 25fps.

Won't I get an audio synch problem and if so how do I sort it out. Don't really want to lose the surround sound.

    Cheers

    Mr E

you will not have synch issues if you use this method. i use it very often and have never had any sych issues as the file length doesn't change. use tmpgenc and dgpulldown

or, you could use "besweet", which can convert the audio for you. use its presets, eg 23976fps--->25000fps, it works flawlessly for me

he wants to keep the audio in tact--there is no need to change it, all that needs to be changed is the framerate.

I looked at BeSweet but I guess that using that transcodes the audio (is that the right word?) so there will be a quality drop.

I will have a go with your method - Does this mean that I encode at PAL Resolution but leave the fps alone and then use the DGPulldown tool to adjust the fps to 25.

Alternatively I guess I could encode the video as NTSC - My DVD player is multi-region so should work.

          Thanks

you would encode your file as 23.976 fps as it is, then use dgpulldown to adjust to 25 fps.

yes, so the above conversion isn't needed then....why did you want to convert to PAL?

Um, errr - I guess I got hung up on the technical aspects of can I convert this to PAL, never stopped to think I might not need to.

Sorry, didn't mean to waste your time - at least I know a bit more about about framerates and stuff.

Thanks a lot for your help
