    Are you sure there isn't a setup somewhere to avoid the automatic 'smart' mode?

    Yes, I forgot to say that your TV set must be correctly connected to be able to automatically switch modes. A RGB SCRAT (with all pins connected!) should work.

      No. It is a portable player with a little screen attached. The TV has absolutely no setting. The player controls it.
