Compressing DVD to achieve Shrek's Quality?

    Hi everyone
just finished a visual fx project, client's asked me to do the compression and conversion to DVD as well..

I've got all the shots together in an afterFX timeline, when i tried rendering it out using DivX, the quality kind of sucked, when i set everything to full quality, came out neat, problem was that it wasnt compatible with DVD players.. and it was jerky on the hard drive as well..

i was wondering how i could achieve quality like that of Shrek DVD movie, it's unbelievably cool, and i guess my production is barely 4 min, im sure i could pull off same quality since i wouldn't eve have to worry about file size.
    Thanks in advance.

output the edited film to either divx or xvid with EXTREMELY HIGH bitrate or use something like mjpeg / huffyuv as rather lossless codecs

this will provide you with a high quality data, which you will have to convert to dvd compliant mpeg-2 stream in another step by means of a good ENCODER

you could use tmpeg, procoder, cce or even hc enc to do this second conversion
