Announcing DVDSubEdit:
Beta 0.62 (NOW Version 1.5 SEE END OF THREAD) of DVDSubEdit can be found here...



DVDSubEdit allows you to visualize and make modifications to the subpics (subtitles or button highlights in menus) directly inside the VOB files, without the need to demux and remux the subpic stream.

DVDSubEdit has the following features:

• Drag/drop one or several vob files, the analysis is done in the background. You can start looking at the SPUs right away.
• Displays the subpics along with the background video, reading the Color Lookup Table from the IFO.
• You can move the subpicture up and down and see the result right away.
• You can select subpictures by stream ID (language) or by Vob/Cell IDs and only move the selected subpictures.
• When you're satisfied with what you see, simply click "Save all changes". Saving takes a few seconds, and you can test your modification in your favorite software player.

DVDSubEdit Beta .62
- The application is now called DVDSubEdit (I slightly altered ricardo.santos' suggestion here!).
- The subpic language is displayed in the stream selectiong drop-down. The display can change as you go through the SPUs as they might be referenced by different PGCs with different stream setups.
- When opening a "middle" vob in a vts (e.g. VTS_01_2.VOB), the first subpic was often displayed the wrong way (not CLUT
and no background video) because no navpack had been found prior to the subpic pack. DVDSubEdit now skips
the first subpic pack if no navpack can be found before it.
- Tried to improve (but didn't succeed entirely) the display of the first subpic (flickering etc).

Beta 0.69 of DVDSubEdit is now available here...

Here's the change log from beta 0.62

• DVDSubEdit can change normal start commands (STA) to forced start (FSTA) and vice versa. This enables you to turn regular subtitles into forced ones (always on, as soon as the stream is selected), or forced ones into regular ones.
• DVDSubEdit can change the transparency. Selecting "All" pixels applies the selected transparency amount to all pixels except for the pixels that are used for the background.
• When clicking "Apply to all" a new dialog pops up where you can select which changes to apply to all subpics.
• The subtitle duration is now correct when there's more than 2 DCSQTs (sets of commands).
• The video background now shows button rectangles it there are any buttons defined in the navpacks preceding the subpic packs..
• DVDSubEdit no longer crashes when CHG_COLCON commands are found (it simply stops parsing the commands). CHG_COLCON commands are very rare (haven't seen one yet).
• There's a help file embedded into the app. It's empty at this point.
• Switched to using STL vectors in the CSubpic and CSubPicEngine class. This allows me to deal with SPUs with very large numbers
  of command sets.
• The transparency was ignored when the CLUT couldn't be found. This has been fixed.
• There sometimes (rarely) were crashes while loading. These have been fixed.

Cool tool.........Vobsubedit would be better name IMHO, since thats what it does.

lol vobsub is already a program, written by none other than gabest. naming it vobsubedit might give the impression its a GUI (or a modification of some sort) for vobsub

Beta 0.71 of DVDSubEdit is now available here...





Here's the change log from beta 0.69

• Added slider to define a vertical "safe area" for the subtitles. They're moved just enough to fall within the area.
  This is not available / applied if the SPU is a button highlight.
• Added button to only display modified subtitles.
• Improved the SPU slider behavior when selecting various streams.

Beta 0.75 of DVDSubEdit is now available here...

Here's the change log from beta 0.73

• The spu duration can now be changed. DVDSubEdit makes sure the subpics don't step on each others.
• Improved the display behavior when the input file is being scanned (no more flickering).
• Added code to pick the colors for the default Color LookUp Table. These are saved in the settings.
• The spu PTS (presentation) time is now displayed.
• Fixed a bug that caused the wrong transparency values to be displayed when several DCSQTs were present (thanks kumi!)
• Fixed a bug that caused the transparency for the background to be changed in some cases when it should not have been.

Thanks blu! This is fun, mainly because there really isn't any other tool to do that... But the real challenge will be when I try to tackle "in-place remuxing" (i.e., changing subpic timing by moving them in the vob)! Not there yet though!

Excellent tool.

I do have one question. Is it possible to move a line of subtitles to another part of the same VOB file? I have a forced subtitle that appears at the wrong time (almost 30 seconds after it is supposed to be).

Are you absolutely sure that this subtitle is soooo far off?? To be sure, load the vob in DVDSubEdit, and locate the nasty guy. Make sure the image it appears in is indeed that much late.
Now, if that's really the case, DVDSubEdit can't help you yet (I'm planning on implementing this feature - moving a subpic from one place to another, to allow delaying/resynchronizing subtitles).
At this point, you have to demux, use a sup tool to change the PTS, then remux. A bit of a pain, but not that terrible.

Afraid so. The normal English subtitles are fine but the forced ones are not at that point.

I will wait and see what you can come up with.
