DVD duration limited to two hours?

    Hello,

I've used avi2dvd to create a dvd for a 4-hour film (tv-recording). The process went very smoothly and delivered a 4.5GB iso-image that I wrote on a dvd.
-> When I play this dvd on a dvd-player, it says the film only is 2h1min long and after that point, it stops playing
-> When I play this dvd on my pc (using PowerDVD), it plays beyond 2 hours, but there are no chapters set beyond that place (avi2dvd sets chapters every 5 minutes) and also the progress bar in the PowerDVD gui indicates 100% beyond that place!
-> When I look at the files on the dvd, then I can see the whole film, nicey wrapped up in 5 VOB-files. The 'magic' end point of the film seems to be somewhere in the middle of the third VOB-file.

How to explain this? Is there some metadata on a DVD that tells the duration, and did avi2dvd set this wrong? Or can DVDs just not be any longer than 2hrs???

    Thanks for you advice!
    Vic

i don't know what you did, but it's the bitrate that determines the length of a video to fit on a dvd. i just compiled one the other day with nearly 7 hrs running time (tv captures), so to answer your question, no, 2hrs is not the limit on a dvd. to get a 4hr clip on one dvd it would have to be compressed a lot, resulting in significant quality loss. i'd put it on 2 discs personally
