Improper nav of converted DVD

Hey all, I got all the VOB files (file by file) converted from PAL to NTSC from that one disc. However, when taking the PAL IFO's and patching them so they are now NTSC, the navigation is bad. The menu has no buttons, just one big video clip. Also, when playing on my standalone player, there is no menu... it plays the copyright warning and little credit thingys and then the Buena Vista Home VIdeo screen, then stops and goes to the "DVD-Video" screen. Attached are a ZIP files of the NTSC IFO's, the original PAL IFO's And the PAL menu (menushrinked... and should have the buttons) and the converted NTSC menu (menushrinked, but no buttons) have been uploaded to my website - links at the bottom of the post. Would someone be so kind as to fix the nav and add the buttons back to the NTSC menu? Please and thanks!

Also, there is the VIDEO_TS file that has a language selection (English or other, basically) that doesn't have buttons in NTSC either... but that will come later if someone can successfully can fix the menus. I realise that it is hard, and the IFO's are screwed up, but hopefully that isn't too much for the great blutach

Checking your VIDEO_TS.IFO of PAL2NTSC and I am afraid that, IMHO, the settings weren't completely correct:

1- The Video Manager Menu attributes was OK, except that it should be set to "Automatic Letterboxed" instead of "Automatic Pan&Scan"

2- The Title Set 1 was OK

3- The Title Set 2 was set 4:3 and not specified perm. display. It should be set as 16:9 and Automatic Letterboxed

4- The Title Set 3 was OK again

5- The Title Sets from 4 to 7 were incorrect set like the Title Set 2: 4:3 and not specified perm. display. It should be set as 16:9 and Automatic Letterboxed

I checked the rest of all the .IFO files and they were wrong too. You should reset them to have 16:9, 720x480, and Automatic Letterboxed.

What do you mean? Not all the files are 4:3... Did you check the original PAL IFO's too? All I did was take the PAL ones, copy and paste them into the NTSC folder (BUP's too) and use IFOedit to change it from PAL to NTSC. I think I will let blutach take a look and see if he can do anything about it.

No I didn't. I've been real busy and haven't had time.

What ben is getting at though is tio ensure your video attributes of the original VTSs match the reauthored ones. If 4:3 to begin with, then 4:3 at the end and vice versa.

Sounds like you need to re-author the menu buttons again. This is not difficult in PgcEdit. Just a copy and paste.

And ben is someone who is good with IFO editing.

What I don't get is... All I did is copy and paste the IFO's from the PAL DVD to the NTSC DVD. And then just changed it from PAL to NTSC. How do I copy and paste the menu buttons - wasn't that carried over? Would you be able to trace thru the IFO's and see what's wrong? The thing is... I can somewhat understand some of the things in PgcEdit, but this DVD is very odd... there are like 40 something titles. Not sure why, as there are 7 VTS titles, but a lot of titles. I can see what I can do, but chances are I will need someone's help with it - if they can give me a step-by-step that would be great.

PS - about the aspect ratios, they should be correct, as all I did was convert each VOB individually from PAL to NTSC, using a combination of DivX2DVD (for the titles) and benbryant's method (for the menus and multi-angle special feature) and just name them correctly and dump them all in a folder. The aspect ratio should carry over in the IFO's right?

I tried opening them in PgcEdit, here is what happens:

Then comes that. Pretty much like the first one.

This happens for all of the VTS_XX_0 files. Not sure why.

That happens when I go to copy and paste the menu buttons.

Anyone have any suggestions? Could someone look at the provided files, and try this themselves?

Did you do a mock strip of all menu files like PgcEdit suggested?

I note these errors are all menu VOBs. Are these converted? Remember, you can't mix and match - a DVD is either PAL or NTSC. Simply patching IFOs don't make VOBs right.

I didn't patch them. I converted with DivX2DVD. If you open them in VirtualDubMod, the framerate is 29.97 fps at 720x480 resolution. What I did for all the VTS_XX_0's was just convert 1 and name it for each of them, as all of the ones from the original DVD were just one black frame, basically all the same. As for mock stripping, I am not good at that, I can try, but it will probably fail. I have posted a link to both menu VOB's if that helps.

If they are just one black frame, blank them in PgcEdit or VobBlanker. They will be replaced with an MPEG2 compliant PGC.

BTW, I just stripped VTS_01_1 and VIDEO_TS, both menus. I am now stripping the rest of the titles, unless that is enough.

Very interesting. When I did a mock strip and such, now when I open in PgcEdit, I don't get errors for those 2 VOB's, like I did before. So, I will strip the other VTS_XX_0 files and see if that works.

Nope, still errors. I will try MenuStripping instead of Title-Stripping on those as well.

Glad to see you are getting there.

If you look, there are no buttons in VTSM 1, 1, 2. If you are certain there should be buttons in this PGC, then open the original PAL version in another instance of PgcEdit and export the button info. Then import it to your NTSC version. Instructions in the PgcEdit help file.
