I would look up above your post here to anonymez's post and follow his advice because he knows what he's talking about. Also check out his other posts in this thread. When you follow that and you make sure the codec you need is installed then you might for now want to use one of the other encoders.I had success with NuEnc the next one down the line.

Should thid dvd have 5.1 surround sound after converting it to dvd?

Could i just do a data backup of the avi file to a dvd disc leaving it as a avi file and play it on a dvd player that plays avi files and have surround sound?

            Thanks

depending on the avi2dvd version you might want to try the LATEST version of hc enc

older release of av2dvd had hc 015 included - you should try 016

if we are talking about DVD2SVCD, yes

and dvd2svcd or dvd2dvd can also use an avi as source material

Try DivX2DVD... also free. Works in about two clicks and an hour's waiting.

Now, Google it but click on the VideoHelp link, and then click on Get the free one... as it is not free anymore but you can still get the old free one that works just as well as the not-free one.

I tried the trial version of divx2dvd and it copied the movie but I was unable to play it on a couple of dvd players. I received a message that says "playback prohibited by area limitations"

Why would I be getting this message? I can get it to play on my hacked apex dvd player but not my panasonic dvd recorder or on a sony dvd player that I have.

I downloaded a program called video inspector and used it to tell me which codec I needed and searched and installed it and it looks like the avi2dvd program is going to work now.

It is going thru the process of encoding as I type. (On a different computer)

I would like to know how does one keep the surround sound aspect of a movie.

If I download a movie file should it have surround sound? How will I know?

                        Thanks

No, AVIs will not have surround sound. Try the FREE DivX2DVD program, not the trial.

drfsupercenter is wrong. Yes, you can backup your DVD and keep the ac3 (Dolby digital surround) sound in the AVI file. And we'll help you to do it if needed.

But if you download an avi with or w/o ac3 you won't get any help here. Rule #6.

Sorry, didn't realise that AVI's could have surround in them. I didn't know his file had surround sound, in that case, DivX2DVD should be able to handle it... I didn't try it though, for none of my AVI's have surround sound.
