Can someone tell me how to use this program in layman's terms?! The guide on the website looks incredibly complicated. All I want to do is process an entire movie that is saved to my HDD as a video_ts file. Does this program write over the original files?

The only resaon I would use this would be to "fix" Arccos protected DVD's. I "blank"/remove all the subtitles, languages, etc. in DVD Shrink already. How do I set this program up to make Sony Arccos DVD's copiable? That's all I want it to do.
thanks!Comment

What is meant by "blanking out"
With Accros DVD's there is a lot of usless crap that is NOT part of the movie or menus or even speacial features.
There are dummy sectors of crap other then what you watch this is a way of protecting the DVD from being copied. VOBBlanker and FIXvts will remove the CRAP not any part of the actual movie or menu or special features. By removing this this will free up space and you will not have to compress the DVD as much.
You can backup the movie only how ever this has nothing to do with the Accros sectors.Comment

OK guys.
1. If you re-author with DVD Shrink, VobBlanker will not help you, except if you need it in phase 3 of the anti ARccOS wizard.
2. Blanking out means turning huge video and audio streams into tiny 10k blanks (half a second of black video witout audio). It is a much more advanced technique than "still picture" in DVD Shrink.
3. To make your ARccOS DVDs copyable, just follow the wizard - there's no special setup as the wiz does it all for you.
4. @photo - the ARccOS sectors are always in the movie (assuming it's not an episodic DVD).

As blutach said, VobBlanker is designed to customize your DVD in full backup mode, blanking unwanted material, replacing titles with reencoded ones (i.e. extras reencoded in Half D1 or audios at lower bitrate), stilling all/part of the menus, replacing background of menus, cutting part of cells... etc. The main objective is to reduce the size of extras/menus to get a better quality in the main video in the last pass: reencoding with DVD-RB or shrinking with DVDshrink.
And, also, with VobBlanker you can split easily your DVD-9 into two DVDs, keeping the menus/extras. Taking into account the cost of the media this is a good option for long movies like LOTR

Okay. I already use DVD Shrink to remove everything except the movie itself and a single 5.1 audio track, so I don't need the editing features of VobBlanker. I only wanted it because I thought I could run the movie through it to remove the Arccos protection prior to sending it to DVD Shrink .Comment

That's true - you can. See phase 3 of the wizard.

Its more powerful than you think. I will list out few more uses adding to what Jsoto has said.
- I use Vobblanker to blank out extras, disclaimers etc (most basic use of VOBblanker)
- I use VOBblanker to blank out the the end credit Cells, saving appx 200-300 MB straight.
- I use VOBlanker to Crop, keeping only the actual movie from Start to End (without the credits) with menus.
- VOBblanker can be used to remove those uncomfortable scenes from inbetween the movie (if you have kids) still keeping the menus.
- VOBblanker can be used to remove the "Unreferenced Folder" you typically find after Menushrink, once you open it with DVD shrink.
- VOBblanker can be used to strip those unwanted language Audio.
- VOBBanker can be used to arrange the ILV cells so that DVD shrink does not create problems later.
- VOBblanker can also be used for creating Still menus.(Just like Menushrink)Comment

It strips subbies too and is the next best thing to IfoEdit for a mock strip.
