    .avi files wont play in dvd player

    I have a dvd player that plays .avi files ...it works for most .avi files..
    It so happens that i have this one .avi file that it wont play...are there like different types of .avi files..?? IF so..is there a program that converts them into the standard one? Thanks

      of course there are different types. different compression of video/audio. have a look at this link by jmet

              O...Columbo...one more thing <scatching head>...
              i converted my avi files so that it plays in my dvd divx player now using the link help above...BUT...now my subtotles are all outta wack....any clue?,,,
              is it possible to burn the subitiles into my original avi..(not as seperate files).. b4 i virtualdub them???
