    DVD Player Stand Alone Question

<!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->I call tech support and gave them my model number a couple hundred times after getting transferred and it turns out that my player only reads -R and not +R. The messed up thing about it is that I have over 200 +R's and they all played on it. Now I have to reback them all up, good thing they are already compressed. It just messes up occassionaly and has a incorrect disc error. The tech support told me that +R's would only play once in a blue moon. Now a friend of mine says he doesn't think that's it because it sometimes doesn't play commercial DVD's as well after playing the +R's. I have to like turn it up side down and tap it and it works. He thinks it's a hardware problem.

What's the real deal can playing the incorrect format mess up your dvd player after an extended amount of time?

If you have over 200 movies backed up on dvd+R I personally would take the player back to the store and get a player that will support DVD+R a lot of the newer ones do.

If you have to turn the player upside down that to me would be s sign that you should take it in. Something may be loose in side the player.

Take it back. There should be some kind of warranty.

Yeah the problem is its past it's 3 month warranty. I thought it was a year till I read the fine print in the booklette or else I would just take it in. ah well.

                        Sony

I have that same sony DVD and it always starts to skip during the last 1/2 of a back up w/ +R. Regardless of the DVD brand.

I got a cheap magnovox and it plays everything +R like a champ. $30 at Sams Club.

I second this player. I've had it for 6 months now and It plays anything I put in it. My backups play fine (Verbatim DVD-R DL; Taiyo Yuden 16X DVD-R; Memorex DVD+RW 8x; Maxell DVD+RW 4x). Great features too for only $70 it can't be beat.
