Is it possible to split 2 DVDs to 1, AFTER ripping whole disc to a single folder?

Newbie question for the group:

If I've already ripped a disc to a single folder, but now want to back it up to two DVDs instead of one, to prevent shrinking and preserve film integrity, is that possible? OR, do I have to re-rip the disc to two halves and go from there, as per the two DD articles I found recommend?
