Open video file in VirtualDUB 1.6.14

when i tried to open an .avi file using virtualdub,, it gives me the error message..Couldnt locate compressor ofr format'DX50"(unknown')
VirtualDub requires a Video for windows(VFW) compatible codec to decompress video...Directshow codecsm such as those use by windows mdeia player, are not suitable..

I am using ffdshow with WMP 10 to view my .avi files...
do i need to install a different codec..if so..please advice..

    Thanks

Please use a tool call GSpot to identify the decoders needed to open the file:

GSpot is a nice little tool that allows you to see what codecs your video file uses in order to determine what you need to install on your system to watch it.

go start-->programs-->ffdshow-->vfw codec configuration, set divx 5 to libavcodec
