VobBlanker - Unsynchronized Packs

Voblanker has pretty much solved most of my problematic backups. HOwever, the past two days on one particular episodic dvd the following appears:

Warning: Packs Unsynchronized. Skipping packs
(x packs skipped)

after perusing the "authoring" post first as well as other sites and posts, I am unable to find out what this means as well as whether or not it is solvable problem as even after using ripit4me, voblanker etc. I still am having trouble getting dvd shrink to kick in.

any suggestions? thank you.

Nothing to worry about. This is VobBlanker's way of telling you that you have a pack that does not start with 0x01ba. It skips them and does not abort the process.

Still, your ripper should have discarded these.

Unsychronized Packs

Thank you, blutach, for the information. The ripper I am using is "ripit4me".

RipIt4Me, according to the guide, replaces bad packs with stuffing packs (which are legit).

Did you run FixVTS as the final stage of your rip? It is very strongly advised to do so.

Yup, always run fixvts - the protocol I almost always use is "ripit4me" then fixvts - then voblanker - then dvd shrink - then shrink's auto link to burning with Nero. However, I think I have determined that my problem is Nero. I am now getting consistent "write error" or "reset" - I am not sure but I think I have narrowed it down to a communication problem with either my USB external burner or conflicting drives. I checked with cynthia's site on burn error codes for nero - am unable to figure out if drive problem, but as to external burner, tried everything she suggested and I appear to be left with the option of making the external drive "internal" which simply leaves me in the dark as to how such a thing is possible or if so, how to do it.

I appreciate your interest - but again, based on my limited knowledge I seem to have narrowed it down to burning on Nero. yet I noticed a very odd thing the other day, after failing to burn a dvd using shrink's "high quality compression" error correction" setting, the burn wouldn't take but when I left both options with no compression error correction off, the burn went through fine (though the quality of the picture, watchable but poor).

Sure sounds like a burning error. Sounds like your media is quite variable.

Read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning.

I really can't begin to thank you Blutach; your patience and attention, not just to me but to everyone on these forums are godsends, particularly to those of us who simply look at their computers and go "duh".

I (paws crossed) "solved" most of the burning problems I had due to your guides and directions therein - it was not a "media" problem. Rather what seems to have happened was two corrupt drivers and a conflict with InCD which I got rid of straightaway. I overwrote the windows drives with a new download and re-loaded the "USB mass storage drive" which I found in "device manager" by accident (the mfg. "I/O Magic" was telling me that this was not a problem and sholuldnt be necessary but it was).

However, where it is no longer a recording problem just for your interest I am still getting "unsynchronized packs" warnings on vobblanker after running "fxtvs" in "ripit4me"
