VideoReDo - mpg video with no sound?

Last night I started playing around VideoReDo to edit the length of an off-air TV recording I captured from my DVD recorder.

    Pretty easy program to use.

At first I saved the edited file as a VOB (replacing the original VTS_01_1.VOB with the edited version) but when I tried to re-record the DVD files I got an error msg in Nero (6 Ultra), something about a reallocation error, that the file size wasn't an exact multiple of 2K...

Then I tried something different - I saved the edited video files as MPGs and joined the 2 files and burnt that to a DVD. This mpg file palys OK (video and audio) on my PC (in WMP 9) but when I try to play it on my TV through the DVD recorder/player I get good video but NO audio.

What did I do wrong in editing/burning the mpg?

    - and any ideas/comments on the Nero problem with burning VOB files...?

Did you try the 'audio' button on your DVD players remote to see if you got the proper audio stream selected?
BTW, Nero burns the mpeg files into DVD compliant vob/ifo files onto the disc.

Thanks for the comments MikeyBK - and sorry for the delay in replying; have been traveling.

It may be best for me to back up one or two steps - What I'm interested in doing is to edit some TV videos that I've recorded with my PVR.

Editing includes basically removing commercials and trimming the overall length and then burning the output to a DVD so my wife can easily watch them in a stnd DVD player.

      - so, what's the best approach to do this - ie. what program(s) is best to use and is there some step by step guides...?

      Many thanks and regards.

Your PVR is most likely capturing in MPEG2 format, same as mine ( I use WinTV2000 set to the highest bitrate), I then edit out commercials and excess ending credits using VideoReDo. Then I convert the Mpeg2 files to DVD compliant format (VOBs, IFOs) using a conversion program, such as TMPGEnc, VSO ConvertXtoDVD, 1ClickDivxToDVD, or maybe one of the free converters like MediaCoder.
IF the files are under 4.37 GBs after the conversion, then you can go straight to burning to disc, BUT if over 4.37 GBs, you will need to compress with DVDShrink down to below 4.37 GBs and then burn to disc.

BTW, After editing with VideoReDo, you could use NeroVisionExpress to convert and burn all at once, but the edited video needs to below that 4.37 GBs or you would need to use a dual layer disc. Also if using Vision Express you can set the output bitrate to a high setting to retain the videos quality when converting.

          OK - great - thanks.

I've got VideoReDo pretty much figured out so now I need to work on the conversion programs. Since I expect the final DVDs will be under 4.37GBs I'll look into Nero Vision Express. Since I don't think it's part of my Nero 6 Ultra installation I presume it's an extra add-on...

Will keep you posted on progress (and questions)!!!

          Regards.

The Nero programs I have available include Nero "Express 6", which I guess isn't the same as Vision Express.

Express 6 seems to provide for making of Video CDs, SuperVCDs and miniDVDs - will this produce DVDs as req'd in our earlier discussion - or do I need to get my hands on the actual Nero Vision Express?

You need to go to Program Files >>> Ahead folder >>> Nero Vision Folder >>> Then click on the NeroVision icon >>> And the NeroVision Express will show up.

Not sure if older Nero 6 didn't include VisionExpress, I have Nero 6 Full version

Nero Express 6 SE's special features

Nero Express 6 SE differs from the full version of Nero Express 6, both in relation to the types of compilation possible, and in the software's range of functions:

The following compilations are not possible:
                • miniDVD
                • Bootable CDs / DVDs
                • Audio and data
                • Nero Digital Audio CDs / DVDs
                • Super Video CDs
The following features are not included or are only available to a limited extent:
                • Nero Cover Designer
                • It is not possible to save audio tracks
                • Rewritable discs can only be erased using Nero StartSmart
                • Information on the discs can only be obtained using Nero StartSmart

Nero Vision Express is NOT a part of Nero Ultra. It is included in Nero Digital.
And Nero Express is NOT the same thing as Nero Vision Express. The former is a burning program while the latter is an authoring program.

OK- now have Nero Vision Express installed and running...

I took the 2 VOBs (one representing the 1st half of the video and the 2nd VOB for the last half of the video) and reauthored them with Nero Vision Express.

I wound up with a title page for the new DVD showing the 2 selectable (with buttons) VOBs, named (something like) VTS_001... and VTS_002... - so I'm happy with this.

                      Now my questions are;
                      - is there any way I can rename the VTS files on the title screen (such as "Movie, Part 1" and "Movie, Part 2"?
                      - can I also just get rid of the button for the VTS_002 file (ie. the 2nd half of the movie) since I only want to play the movie from the beginning?

Glad you got Vision Express installed and running .

Once you have added the different files, there is an icon on the left that can 'Rename Titles' (bottom blue icon)
And as for making both titles into one to play all together from beginning to end, you can right-click and highlight both titles and the 'Merge Titles' option will become activated, press it and it will merge all titles into a single one.

As I've mentioned , I have the OEM version of Nero (Nero Version: 6.6.0.14 ) I have no intentions or need to upgrade to Nero 7. I have only Nero Recode, Nero Vision Express, Nero Burning Rom, Nero Showtime, InfoTool, and CD Speed installed on my PCs and they are all stable versions. I have no desire for any other Nero programs.

What I was referring to was Gemo's Nero 6 (Ultra?) seems to be a different version than my Nero 6 (OEM). Thus the reason Gemo did not have Vision Express, I guess.?

Anyway, I hope that makes it easier for you to interpret.
