Converting WS to Standard screen?

I have been trying to convert cars and over the hedge from WS to standard screen most of the night with no luck at all.

I have managed to convert WS to WS though. LOL

I thought I could do this with DVDremake pro (No go there)

Tryed with PGCedit and still ened up with WS.

Anyone know how this is done.

I know it can be done I just cant seem to do it.

First off, there is a huge amount of discussion on this subject on this forum, check the search function, with many, many different viewpoints, which after all is said and done boils down to if your have a full screen or wide screen TV.

These are the options that I have used and come close to the aspect ratio 4:3 fullscreen.

1. If your DVD player has the option to change aspect ratio from widescreen to full screen and vice versa.

2. The first level of zoom on your remove comes close to full screen.

3. TMPGEnc Plus (mpeg2 level encoder) has the option frame clip which clips the top and bottom black borders on the wide screen version, and it does NOT streach the people out of proporation if you use the option NO MARGINS KEEP ASPECT RATIO.

4. There are options in IFO EDIT to do this also, I don't remember if IFO EDIT changes both the IFO file and the VOB files from widescreen to fullscreen.

5. DGIndex frame clips does not work
Manual changing HC019.1 encoder aspect ratio does not work

In PgcEdit, right click on the title, choose domain stream attributes.

If it is 16:9, change to (EDIT: pan and scan) as shown below.



OK and save. Test in s/w player.

The attributes in the IFOs overrides what is in the VOBs.

I tried that last night I thought it worked until I played it. It is still WS.

I have also tryed it with over the hedge and small soldier and all still are WS.

I'm stumped then, since the setting in ther IFO is supposed to override those in the VOB. Now, I cant promise it will look good if it starts off anamorphically, but that is still the way to do this.

I am wondering if IFO edot would work better for that. Just not sure how to do that with IFO edt. Iw ill have to play with it.

IfoEdit does exactly the same thing but a different GUI.

In IfoEdit, you have to modify the same thing in 2 different places. Therefore, it's easier to do that with PgcEdit.

When testing, be sure to load the DVD in your software player. Playing just the VOB file is not sufficient.

Are you sure that the original movie is in 16:9? To verify that, use the PgcEdit preview to save a BMP, then open the BMP and report if:
1) The picture looks distorted, compressed horizontally?
2) The picture is not distorted, but has black horizontal borders?
Or post the image here.
With that info, we will be able to give you the correct way to do what you want.

I have been working on this with no luck as well. I have searched & found several pgc guides, but none WS to FS. I did as blu instructed, except, what do you actually click on to "save" your work? Is it File/ save IFO's as?

<B>EDIT: After I did as blu instucted in the screen shots, I clicked on preview PGC, & the people in the movie were all streched out about 7' tall. Is this typical of what will happen when doing this conversion?</B>
