Video Studio 11 fails two pass encode

I've just ran into a problem with my Video Studio 11+ setup. I can encode to mpg OK if I set my project parameters to encode in a single pass. If I set the parameters to two pass encode the run fails during the second pass with an "2000:1:1 Failure to encode video" error message.

Has anyone encountered something similar to this?
