BIG problem BIG question!

Hi there, this is my situation:

1. I made a Doc. and created a DVD two menus, single audio, no subtitiles, easy

2. My hard disk crashed days ago,
and was able to restore part of my project sources

3. Now, the only DVD I have with the doc, has 3min. of bad image in one VOB
fortunately, I still have those sources,

4. Then, I created a new DVD structure containing only one VOB,
and I replaced the damaged one with this one.

5. I create new IFo with ifoedit, but when reaches the begining of the replaced VOB
doesnt work. Strange because the VOB has almost the same size, less than 1K difference


So the BIG QUESTION IS
what else do I need to do in order to have this new VOB work as the old one
without altering the DVD structure?


The second question is, do the mpeg files in that VOB must be compressed
using the same bitrate?

You cannot simply replace a VOB file with another one.

To do it the right way, open your old DVD in PgcEdit. (It doesn't matter if you have already replaced the VOB manually. The VOB in that DVD folder will be replaced anyway.)

Then, select the title with the damaged VOB in the left pane, and use the PgcEdit menu File -> Replace VTST Titles. Navigate to your new IFO and select it. When asked if you want to keep the original data, answer yes if you are sure that the new VOB has the same structure than the old one. (It must have the same number of cells and chapters, the same audio and subpic streams, etc..., but not necessarily the same compression ratio.) In you are not sure, answer No.

PgcEdit will replace the old VOB with the new one, and update the old IFO according to the info it finds in the new one. (It's because that last step was not made when you have replaced the VOB manually that your DVD cannot work correctly.)

Test with a software player, remove the PgcEdit_backup folder (that should contain the old VOB and the old IFOs), and burn with a good burner, such as ImgBurn. Your DVD should work correctly now.

Cant manage pgcedit as you adviced

When I open pgcedit I see the TITLES
but the image content on each title doesnt match the VOB content.

In other words, I have the VOB #5 with four consecutive scenes (the third is damaged)
but when I click/play the TITLES the arrangement of scenes is totally different,
finally, there is no TITLE that correspond to this VOB, so what to do?????

The last TITLE has all the VOB images I rebuilt, but has other as well that resides on other VOBs,
something is missing, I can only re-make VOB files, not titles....

I figured out, and moced to the next step,
what is the "new ifo" ?????
remember I couldnt create a whole new dvd, just a dvd with one VOB
containing the same scenes that the damage one.

If you can recreate a DVD with the damaged scene, then you must have recreated at least one VOB and two IFOs (VIDEO_TS.IFO and VTS_01_0.IFO). When importing the title in your original compilation, you must open VTS_01_0.IFO.

If you have recreated only a single VOB, then you don't have a new DVD, and PgcEdit cannot help you. Try to replace the damaged cells of the original DVD with VobBlanker.
