    Sony DRU500a Not working

    I Have a sony DRU500a and i'm having problems getting any program to run. it burns cdr's fine. but any program i install for dvd's says no compatible drives found. i just installed dvd decryptor and it says device not ready. but in the source window it does recognise the drive. i've had this for 3 weeks and cant do a thing with it. i'm running windows xp with a 1.4 amd with 768mb of ram. any help would be appreciated.

    I suggest you go to your dvd-drive's website and look for driver updates. Sometimes hardware doesn't work because the proper drivers aren't installed.
    Did you know you can SEARCH the forum? Fixes common problems too:

    Also search on the whole Digital-Digest website:

      Have you tried using the DVD-burning software that undoubtedly came packaged with the drive?

      If the drive is newer than the software, this may in fact be your problem. A similar post yielded the following response:

      "PrimoDVD will not recognize the Sony because the Sony is too new.

      PrimoDVD was sold and is now called RecordNow Max. I got a demo version of it with my Sony. It also doesn't recognize the Sony. I e-mailed the company (storesales@stompinc.com) to ask how to get it to recognize my Sony, this is what they replied on 10/23/2002:

      "We will be rolling out a new version of RecordNow Max version 4.5 that will offer support for that Sony drive. The new version will be available in about a month."

      Checking their website (http://www.stompinc.com/recordnowmax/index.phtml?stp) I see that 4.5 is now out. They list the Sony as a supported drive. I suggest you try their free 30 day trial first. The web page claims you can upgrade from PrimoDVD 2.0 for $24 ($34 if you want them to mail you a CD).

      Personally, I returned the Sony drive and bought a Pioneer. Good luck."

          Doesn't she realize that such behavior is a capital offense in the PC world? ;>}

                My pleasure ;>}

                "now i just have to read and learn how to copy the protected dvd's."

                The first step is to "rip" (decrypt and copy to hard drive) the DVD using DVD Decrypter...

                "she meant well and did offer to buy me a new program."

                Then she's definitely a "keeper" ;>}
