    New 2 DVD backup

    OK I am new at this but not an idiot.
    I would like to rip a DVD to my hard drive
    remove extra audio streams, remove subtitles, remove trailers and extra footage and mainly edit the original menu structure so that these options do not even exist unless I leave them in so that I have a simple, functional disk with only the extra's I leave in to make it less than 4.5gb. What tools do I need to get started. I have no problem doing work and spending time learning about this, just would like a shove in the right direction.

      DVD95COPY web site This this link for a really remarkable program. I just received a new update e-mail and this program will allow quite a few features on what you're looking for. To use it you have to rip the entire movie to your hard drive with something like DVD Decrypter (ripping program that also removes macrovision and other encription and allows for region free if you like). Then run the program above to point to the VIDEO_TS folder that was created with DVD Decrypter.

      For a simpler, movie only approach there is also DVD2ONE web site that you might take a look at.

      You can burn with a multitude of different burning software. If you have NERO you might go to NERO'S SITE to get their latest update 5.5.10.15a that fixed a lot of incompatibility issues with stand alone DVD players and even the author of DVD2ONE stated in his web site that he tried the newer version of Nero and it has indeed improved to burn DVD compliant movies.

          Edge, if you do not want to have the Menu, extras, footage, etc...and just want to have the Main Movie than you can STRIP off these extras stuff and burn it into 1DVDR on some movies...All you need is these FREE programs:

          1. SmartRipper
          2. IfoEdit
          3. Nero or PrimoDVD

              Edge.. DVDIdiot is right. There are free programs that allow you to stip out extras and copy the main movie, after ripping and removing macrovision, etc to a DVD. I have burned some whole moives that were small enough straight onto DVD5 media without having to use either dvd95 or dvd2one program. Check out his guides

                  Ripping DVDs

                  Thank you very much, I am not interested in compressing the video at all. I am very familiar with smartripper as I have been backing up to divx for some time. Now what tools do I need to split the vob files into 2 DVD-Rs if need be. I will need an ifo file on the 2nd DVD as well and I would like to possibly ad a custom splash screen on open and close of the DVD as well. I am not familiar enough with audio steams, is there a way to rip out unwanted audio tracks to further reduce VOB size? Is there any way to tell what streams are available.

                      VOB structure

                      I am trying to figure out what the structure of the VOBs are, there seem to be multiple audio streams, video angles, video feeds such as widescreen and full screen, and subtitle streams all in one structure, I would like to know how to see each and only rip out the portions that I intend to use. Can anyone help?
