I just got a sony 500ax dvd+rw/+r/cd drive. beside having it installed. what do i need to do next, what programs to i need to make a back-up copy of a dvd.. (smart ripper or somthing?; converting files hard drive thing of that nature) or is there a web site i can go to?

Click on the DVDR Digest link at the top of this page - and select "Articles"... -
For the simplest/easiest (and fastest?) method to do backups, use the following programs (in order):
DVD Decrypter or SmartRipper: To rip the disk to your HDD
DVD2One, or InstantCopy, or DVD95Copy: To transcode the movie down to a single DVD-R size
Nero: To burn the disk
Practice on some DVD-RW's first until you get the hang of it so you don't make any $3 coasters
I don't really use InstantCopy or DVD95Copy but I hear they're good (except not as fast as DVD2One).
