DVD2One Vs CCE Vs TMPGEnc

I find the quality of DVD2one more than exceptable , considering the time it makes it well worth it.

Is it just me or do other people notice a big difference?

Just wondering too , what method does DVD2one use to encode so fast? Does it just reduce bitrates while frameserving? im stumped at why its so fast.

DVD2ONE is not an encoder like CCE or TMPGEnc. It is a transcoder. For this reason, the quality of DVD2ONE is generally lower than that of CCE or TMPGEnc. However, because it is a transcoder it uses a lot of cpu power but has a lot of speed.

In terms of quality CCE and TMPGenc will give you better results, but may take significantly longer time. CCE is generally regarded as the highest quality mpeg encoder.

Pinnacle System's InstantCopy software and DVD95COPY are similar to DVD2ONE, but supposedly offers higher quality.

I disagree with Batman

Instant Copy takes over 2 hrs and 30 minutes to do a full image backup while DVD2ONE only takes 30 minutes to do a full image of the same movie. I have burned out this movie onto my DVD-RW so that I can test it on my WEGA SONY TV. I've noticed that Instant Copy is blurrier than DVD2ONE. Instant Copy takes 5 times longer, it doesn't mean that it's better. Just remember, bigger is not always better, same as newer is not better than older. Hope this help everyone a little more ...

..I understand encoding ,
hell ive been doing svcd/vcd for many years with cce and tmpgec , i was just asking about dvd2one because ive only just got my dvd burner.
Im very fussy on image , and i do belive dvd2one is aceptable , ive found a 8gig rip dvd2one-ed to 4.7g (1xdvd-r) to have about thae same quality as say a 3 pass cce svcd.
To someone like me thats used to leaving the PC on for about 14 hours to achive that i find weird.
I know i could of searched for the actually codeing/algarythms etc dvd2one uses , i was just after a little insight to other people expeiences/opinions , and maybe a brief summery of why dvd2one is so fast, the previous posts did inform me a bit.

I believe the author has stated that this wonderful single-purpose program was written entirely in assembly language...

DVD2ONE/DVD95COPY work differently than TMPGEnc or CCE it is not a full-fledged "Traditional" encoder, they work I believe by removing streams/data from the file to reach a desired file size.

From an article I read: I'm paraphrasing.
DVD2One uses the parameters it can from from the original MPEG file (MPEG-matrix, motion vectors, GOP structure, etc.), then use a uniform compression factor to resize the frames. It doesn't do a video analysis and strong requantisation on the basis of macroblocks.
Instant copy does a video analysis of the macroblocks and makes a quality judgement of every macroblock.
I left out about 3 pages of technical jargon I understood less than the above.

So my earlier quote/guess "like RE-coding insted of EN-coding" was kinda acurate.

I've still been using CCE just to make sure i get the best image , but i use dvd2one sometime when i rip a few older movies (stuff that hasnt been re-mastered for DVD etc...)
