dvd+r

My DVD+RW's take less than 20sec to format and +R disks take less than a minute to finalize.

Question: How long to do the same with DVD-R(RW) disks?

Boy, you really know how to hurt a guy! BEFORE you even asked your question (unnecessarily), I had already posted the following:

"I can, however, tell you that DVDDecrypter (a better tool overall) apparently can only burn DVD-Rs."

If that isn't "straight" enough for you, I'd suggest that the problem is not one of technical knowledge ("but please keep in mind that when helping those of us who are not 'Emperor's of Digital Video'"), rather command of the English language.

Be that as it may, I'm glad to hear that you've now gotten a handle on things ;>}

Maybe I'm really wrong, but:

DVDDecrypter can write DVD+RW and also DVD+R (I have a NEC 1100 DVD+R/W and can write these discs without any problem). I have tested the DVD+R on Pioneer, Yamakawa, Sony and Scotch. There is no problem. The compatibility of DVD+R is much better than DVD+RW. Many older players recognise DVD+RW as 2 layer DVD (DVD9) and therefor they can't play these discs. So my old Yamakawa fails to play DVD+RW...

So the sequence of compatibility looks like this:
DVD-RAM (worst compatibility)
DVD-RW (almost 60 % players can read DVD-RW)
DVD+RW (almost 70 % players can read DVD+RW)
DVD-/+R (best compatibility ==> almost 85-90% players can read DVD-/+R)

The point was your reply was inaccurate .. dvd decrypter has no problems burning dvd+r's ..

Sorry to correct you here m8 but I have a DVD + R burner and DVDdecrypter handles it very well.

I have a Fujitsu Siemens liteline Laptop
WinXP 750pcu
Toshiba SD-C2402 DVD-Rom
This laptop is 3 years old and plays DVD+r perfectly.
I rip with Smartripper then use Dvd95copy and burn with Nero.
Using Philips DVD+r. Seem no problem here.

whatever i type here is based on my personal experiences and general conventions we follow, yours works which is great, but i know thousand otherpeople have problemplaying dvd+r in dvd-roms, including me..call it our luck. you can find many posts regarding this in these forums.
the point is, since no format is standardized yet its hard tomake a decision..but i am not supporting the alliance on this one, why? i dont think anyone who doesnt wanna pay for using a proprietery tech would, its just like rambus, apple and many other things we will grow to hate.

And look at all those "yes"'s for support of dvd+r .. in fact .. not a SINGLE "no" (dvd+rw and dvd-rw are equally incompatable with a number of drives.) However DVD+R is considerably more compatable then dvd-r .. period.

We have more than thousand problems within the company regarding this and we know it doesnt work.

Hi guys....most the DVD Players both DVD+R/-R support ....if u'r dvd+r is not reading with dvd-rom or some dvd player....then the problem with u'r dvd burning software......if u'r dvd burning software dont close the dvd+r disc after finish writing the data...then dvd+r wont work in any dvd-rom/players....and there is few burning programs only support dvd+r burning.......

I guess you didn't notice that this thread is about the differences between DVD+R and DVD-R, and NOT a request for "how to"...

The most salient point in this thread is that NEITHER type of media will play in ALL standalone players...
