Unstable Sound & Picture using SonyDRU500A, Nero and Standalone-Player

    Hi,

I wonder if anybody has encountered the same problems with the recording and playback of DVD-+Rs.

Not depending on the used Media (DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW) and the Media Brand (I tried a huuuge amount of them due to the problems my Sony DRU500A has had in the beginning) I keep getting problems with those DVDs.

I am always using the newest Updates - Firmware (2.0f), Nero (5.5.10.28), DVD2One (1.1.3) or before I licensed it I used IFOEdit/ReMpeg, and so on...

On my PC everything is running fine, but on the Standalone Player after half an hour (or so) the picture starts freezing (as does the sound) and stops finally.

This is the same on my JVC-XV300 Player (which was praised for compatibility in another thread) as on the Mustek 1000 (which is even worse).

What I am supposing is that the media gets too hot and therefore stops playing (because if you take the media out and leave it two, three hours you are able to view the film from that point on (at least for the next half an hour...)

The second possibility is that the DRU500A has Problems in burning correct Video-DVDs (Or Nero has...).

Has anybody any suggestions? I tried nearly anything for the last five months...

One of my units is a DRU500A. I've used ot to burn in excess of 70 DVDs (MOSTLY DVD-Rs), with no such problem observed...

      Hi setarip,

What kind of Transcoding and Recording Software do you use then? And which Standalone Player?

      Thanks for your help

DVD2One, DVD95Copy, DVDShrink (TMPGEnc together with TMPGEnc DVD Author for converting .AVIs to DVD format)

DVDDecrypter (for burning ISOs), NERO (for burning all others)

Standalones - Sony, Sampo, GE, Go-Video, Apex, JVC

So you are using nearly the same Software as I do...

I think I have to try a different Standalone (maybe a Sony) as the next step. - Thanks again setarip!

But I am still wondering if there is anyone who has had the same problems as I was describing above?

              Hi there,
I`m new in this forum but know your problem. Its not the Sony, I have the same burner, its NERO. If you burn your items with another Programm like Pinacle Instand Copy or WinonCD/DVD it will work. NERO isn`t doing a 100% job for DVD-Video. But you may also notice that another DVD Player maybe will work with NERO burns. I have 3 player KISS who does not play NERO burns, Philips and Malata , both of them play Nero burns.
              Best regards Wattothx

                To wattothx

At the risk of offending you, I'm quite certain that your conclusion is incorrect regarding NERO.

If you read my posts to this thread, you'll note that:

                A) I use a Sony DRU500A for burning
                B) For all burns (other than a few ISOs) I use NERO - (any version from 5.5.10.15 and higher is just fine regarding the "DVD-Video" selection)

And I have NEVER experienced the difficulties delineated by the original poster of this thread, "coulter"...

                  Dear Sir,
nevermind, I`m not offended. That you have no problems don`t indicate you or me are wrong or right. I just had the same problems he had and its only with that KISS DVD Player. If I use another burning programm he works fine. So I`m guessing its Nero not the burner. If it would be the burner why don`t have that effect with every burning programm?
Sorry to ask at this place again, how to shrink DVD+RW burned as DVD-VR with Philips burner?
                  Best regards

                    To wattothx

I'd sooner guess that YOUR difficulty is related to the sensitivity of your KISS players.

Again, I constantly use NERO for burning my DVDs and I DON'T have the problem that "coulter" has described, so I'm quite certain that NERO is not the cause of "coulter's" difficulty...

It seems that my problem is solved.

After returning the jvc-standalone twice to the shop for repairs it didn't show any problems for the last ten films.

The first time I returned the player they just changed the laser, but this time the whole drive was changed - Seems that it was a hardware-problem and had nothing to do with the used software.
