WHICH DVDWRITER TO BUY? *help plz*

hi guys

i am wanting to buy a DVDwriter for my pc and need help in deciding which one to buy from UK. I dont really have a budget - just want to buy the best one . I am interested in copying dvd's etc etc and want to know is it is possible to copy a full dvd movie, and what implications are there? etc etc.

i have a pentuim 4 2hz processor. i am right in saying that it usually take hours to copy one dvd to dvd. ? is there anything else i need to know?

Just make sure that you get something faster than 1X. (1x basically means if a movie is 1.5 hours long it will take 1.5 hours to burn). I have a 1x which works of course but can really slow down the backing up of movies.

1x burner does mean it burns at the time of the movie. You're saying 1x will burn 1.5 hr movie and take 1.5hr to burn?

I have burn 2hrs movie and it only took me 57 minutes.

1x = 57 minutes
2x = 29 minutes
4x = 15 minutes

What about the sony dru-500a ? or the sony line all together?

I have a dru-500a good unit. good price. but this whole dvd backing up thing is still kinda pricey.

I have a NEC ND-1100 and it's working just fine with me .. have made several backups and never had any probs with it..

NEC ND 1300 support both + and - discs.. like the Sony DRU 500

You probably wont be able to copy a dvd straight off, since I know of no writer that write dual layers, which most dvd-movies are printed on.

Very true. The dual layer discs are "Pressed" and not "Burned" as is commonly done. It's a manafacturing process so the closest we can get in the home is a double sided DVD-R.

'cause you can burn both the DVD-R & DVD+R
I have Pioneer 104 and it's been firing like a charm
