Making DVD-RW's play on settop player

I have a settop player that says that it does accept DVD-RW's but when I burn a movie to one it does not play on the player. I thought I heard of a way to alter the DVD-RW or info on it so that it would play on a settop. Does anybody know how??

I have no problem playing DVD-R/Ws (burned exactly the SAME way as I burn DVD-Rs or DVD+Rs) on any of my standalone players. There is nothing "special" that needs to be done when using DVD-R/Ws...

      I have no problem playing DVD-R/Ws ...

Well I just tried again with a DVD-RW and my player denied me the pleasure of watching the movie.

The player I have is a Samsung DVD-P421, about a year old.

Any suggestions for a new one, one that plays CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW.

There are so many choices now, in a wide variety of prices. I'd suggest that you burn something on every form of media that you can - and take the burned CDs and DVDs with you on a shopping expedition, to see that they actually play...
