Pioneer Power Calibration Error

When using 4x media i get the following message

MEDIUM ERROR POWER CALIBRATION ERROR
71 00 03 00 00 00 06 00 00 00 73 03
2A 00 00 00 02 FB 00 00 20 00

This is a recent thing as i used to have no problems

always used datawrite and princo 4x but cant no longer

only 2x work ok.

Can anyone help

Try upgrading your firmware as it may help.

1 found the following things caused this.

1) Bad aspi layer.
re-install aspi layer

2) Windows installation / update over an existing version of windows.
uninstall and then Re-install burner software.

3) Burner detects DVD's required power level incorrectly.
Turn off optimum laser power calibration. (not recommended)

And if all else fails, buy a cd lens cleaner dude and give it a whirl.

its prob the media,if its a "spindle"then often the last twenty or so have "suffered" from the others above.
if not get decent quality ritek g04 etc,(princo etc r crap at 4x)

correct.....and please oriphus what is an aspi layer????

I also do not agree with turning off laser power calibration once
the right setting has been detected.....
the only measure could be increase burnspeed if the dye suffers from "burning it to unreadable "or decrease burnspeed when pits and lands are not clerarly identified anymore...

What is an ASPI Layer??? Are you serious??

ASPI is an acronym for Advanced SCSI Programming Interface. It consists of 4 layers that lie between various software and Hardware devices, such as CD and DVD ROMs/Writers. Windows XP doesnt come with them pre-installed, so you need to download them from Adaptec, version 4.71 is the latest. Without these DVD Burning software, etc... Dont work! However, Nero and similar software, come with ASPI layers for their software. Most Nero users may not be aware fo the need for a SCSI interface, considering their writer is on IDE, but a lot of Non-SCSI hardware need them too.

If you need to get them type in ASPI download in your navigation bar and it should come up.

Also, having discs in a spindle has caused no problems for me ever. I dont think the spindle is related to the problem. I agree with using good Ritek G04's, etc... I personally use Traxdata Ritek G04's, they are the premium of the Ritek discs.
