    power calibration error sony dru-500a

I am constantly getting this error when trying to burn a dvd. I can burn cd-r's fine no problem. I tried burning a prino 4x dvd -r, memorex dvd +rw, and the sony +rw that came with the burner. no luck on any one. I tried with nero, copytodvd, and sonic recordnow dx. I have cleaned the burner, changed the firmware. Is there anything else for me to do?

Solution to Power calibration error on SONY DRU-500A

Solution to Power calibration error on SONY DRU-500A.

(This worked for me - it may or may not help you with your problem.)

After upgrading to Firmware 2.0G I got a significant speed increase. Meaning: I was able to burn 4x speed on all 4x speed media (before I could only burn 4x about once in 20 attempts) - so I had gotten used to select "2x" even on 4x media.

Anyway - upgrading to 2.0G gave me a problem. I bought a whole cakebox (spindel) of 4x DataWrite discs where 9 out of 10 discs returned a "Power Calibration Error". It simply stopped after 1% (Lead-in) and ejected the media. Fortunately all discs were left completely empty - and not just 99% empty.

Solution: Downgrading to Firmware 2.0F solved the problem. Go figure.

I may upgrade to 2.0G later or wait for 2.0H (maby 3.0) but not until that cakebox of DataWrite media is gone.
