Dvd No Longer Recognize By Burner

help!!

I just did a backup of a dvd and the orginal dvd is no longer recognizable by the burner. The backup was bad so I thought that I had another go at it. But when I put the orginal dvd into the burner, it is not longer readeable. The dvd surface look great, no scratches or anything. I put the orginal dvd into my player and it played okay. Anyone who might know what the problem might?

If you're lucky, running a DVD/CD cleaning disk on your burner will solve your problem. Maxell makes one that retails for approximately $10US.

Otherwise, the laser may be out of alignment (or worse). This requires professional repair.

Be careful not to over use the CD/DVD lens cleaner as this can lead to the lens being forced out of focus or even scratched, depending on what method of lens cleaning tool you use.

Did you try playing the original dvd rom with a player? Perhaps the files are locked and playing it with a player should unluck them.

how do dvd cleaners work? are they just cloth?
I know that cassette cleaners are real good, and you put the alcohol stuff on it. I never have cleaned my dvd or anything drive...

DVD cleaners work on the same principle as CD lens cleaners. There are 3 methods of cleaning:

1). The most common i think is the CD disc, with small strands of hair fibre at a certain point (track) on the disc. Theses strands of hair are supposed to gently rub the lens during the spin to clear any dirt and grime away.

2). Alcohol on cotton buds is a method widely used. This is more gentle on the lens, but you need to be sure to use pure 100% alcohol (little amounts) and to be gentle with it. You need to also make sure to use a few extra buds to clear the lens from any smufdges.

£). The 3rd method is a magnetised disc. This disc is set to attract hair, fibres, dirt and grime and to lift it off the lens without touching it. It is handy as it wont wear out the lens, though they are a bit more expensive and are hard to get your hands on.
