No Video_TS.VOB on DVD?

"When I play the DVD using IfoEdit, it comes back and says it played:

Title 1 - Title Set 1 (VTS_01_x)
Title 16 - Title Set 4 (VTS_04_x)

So, is VTS_04_1.VOB the vob I need to copy to get this movie to play? I tried using DVD2One, but it couldn't even bring up the chapter list."

What are you trying to accomplish - playing the actual DVD or duplicating it (entirely or movie only)?

I want to backup the entire movie but I get a little confused using the guides becasue they all refer to Video_TS.vob, but I don't get that file when I rip the DVD. So what do I have to do? Create one, use a different VOB?

I still don't understand if you mean the entire DVD (including menu and extras) or just the movie. Regardless, why don't you simplify things for yourself and use (excellent freeware) DVD Shrink to accomplish this?

(By the way, I'm sure "the guides" typically refer to "VIDEO_TS.IFO" rather than "VIDEO_TS.VOB")

Yes, I want to back-up the entire CD contents. That includes the movie, the extras, trailers...whatever.

As for the guides, and the missing VIDEO_TS.VOB. Here is a link to a Doom9 guide that says:

The 2nd constraint is that each menu must be on both discs. So if there's a VTS_XY_0.VOB it has to be on both discs, including the associated .IFO and .BUP files. Last but not least VIDEO_TS.VOB, VIDEO_TS.IFO and VIDEO_TS.BUP must also be present on both discs.

So, this leads me back to my initial question of "is VTS_04_1.VOB the vob I need to copy to get this movie to play?" and is it the menu file, instead of Video_TS.vob?

why dont u just rip the dvd to ur hard drive with dvd decrypter then use dvd2one to compress the files this will make ur dvd9 2 a dvd5 it should fit on one dvd. then burn with nero

I have yet to come across a VIDEO_TS.VOB in a DVD movie (I have done over 400 rips) that i have noticed, as Setarip says, its not unusual for a DVD not to have it.

I'd suggest that you look a little more carefully. Although I've pointed out a few specific DVDs that don't contain a "VIDEO_TS.VOB", the majority of them do - It's the preferred ('though not REQUIRED) location for FBI warnings, movie ratings, etc...

lol - no - i just back up everything i own. I have over 600 DVD's, it takes a long time to back up

Then I'd suggest you look at the contents of those ORIGINAL COMMERCIAL DVDs and see how many of them DO contain a "VIDEO_TS.VOB" - so that you don't make misleading statements such as, "I have yet to come across a VIDEO_TS.VOB in a DVD movie", which will only further confuse a new poster such as "scrif"...

All anyone has to do is rip the contents to the hard drive and look at them there. There is no point in Scrif viewing files that are on his original.

Also, you seem to have a pretty bad attitude problem, maybe you should get out more

And I suppose you have ALL 600 of those DVD that you PURCHASED presently residing on your hard drive as FULL rips (3-6 TERABYTES)?

1) The attitude you perceive is based on posters "trying to blow smoke" when they don't know what they're talking about - primarily because such nonsense can lead new posters to make grievous errors

2) I'm afraid to "get out more", as I might run into the likes of you ;>}

I know you're simply having fun with this at this point, but it's really unfair to unknowing "newbies" when you post nonsense that they're going to take to heart...
