dvdshrink2.3 & Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 problem

Just got my burner NEC1100A with a new PC.
I tried to use DVDshrink 2.3 in "full disk" mode to copy to my hard drive. Used the level of compression to fit within the size limitation of a DVD+RW. Then copied the resulting unencrypted files on the hard drive to the DVD using "direct cd" drag & drop.
When play back of the DVD attempted with Cyberlink PowerDVD get "a disk with unsupported format in drive D" message.
Any pointers on what I am doing wrong very much appreciated.

I'm not a user of the Roxio software (NERO has a far greater positive reputation regarding burning DVDs), but I'd suggest to you that trying to burn a DVD by selecting something labelled "Direct CD" seems illogical.

Is your software supposed to support DVD burning - or only CD burning?

I would agree with Setarip

I really wouldn't suggest using easy cd creator to burn dvds. I have had great success using nero 6's dvd video mode. As to the easy cd creator question, by you Setarip, I believe theres a version of easy cd creator thats also a dvd burning edition. I haven't used it so I am not familiar with the options regarding it's dvd burning capabilities. I just thought I'd shed some light on your question.

Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 DOES NOT have a DVD template. Version 6 has.
(However, I succesfully used Easy CD 5 in 'data CD' mode to create a miniDVD, by manualy creating the required directories VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS)

Thanks for your replies. I added the directories AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS, draging & dropping all the video into the later and hey presto ....
I am using the package ok for DVDs (it came preloaded on the PC) but I will try out the Nero when I get some time. Thks again.

I have a quick question concerning the drag-n-drop available in Roxio. Given your posts on this thread, I was able to successfully copy a DVD image. Like you mentioned, the VIDEO_TS directory is important. Once I built the correct image with the proper directories, I burned it to a DVD using drag-n-drop. Before I closed the DVD, it was immediately played by DVD player on the pc. So, the image burned was okay. Now, when I closed the DVD, I was no longer able to play the DVD. On a regular DVD plaer, it was not playable. On the same pc where I burned it, it stopped after a couple of seconds. When closing the DVD, did you leave the default options alone or did you select/deselect some of the options available? Any feedback would appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just to confirm: "Direct CD" is Roxio/Adaptec's File System for use with CD/RWs. It basically turns them into large floppies

When I used the Roxio software I left on default and it all worked ok, once I had worked the correct directory / folder layout for where DVD files were expected to be found. This worked on my domestic Sony DVD player and also on the PC with Windows Media Player.
I now use Nero 6 in express mode which is straightforward and I can recommend.
