How come I cannot backup my backups?

No matter what I do I cannot copy my backup DVDs, I've tried DVD-to-DVD, imaging abd DVD shrink to extract. They all hit errors. The DVD play fine in players though.

Why don't you simply make another backup from the ORIGINAL DVD?

It takes much longer. I should be able to do a bit for bit copy and skip the shrinking stage.

Without trying to understand why you can't copy a copy, I'd suggest to you that "taking longer" is a better choice than "cannot copy"...
