DVDR plays on PC but not Stand Alone

I have a dilema, I have read round this problem and yet to come to a suitable solution. I have been backing up movies for some time now and know quite a lot around the subject but as DVD's are fairly complex (as you all know) new problems always arise.

I have an issue with two recent dvd's, Intolerable Cruelty and Under the Tuscan Sun. Both work perfectly within computer DVD-ROM's under either WINDVD or POWERDVD but play them on a stand alone and it comes up with the two directories Audio_TS and Video_TS.

The movie is playable if you select the Video_TS file from the Video_TS directory but only as a VCD, i.e. no menu or subtitles. Also it seems to read the vobs individually and has about a 1 sec break inbetween.

Is there anyway to reengineer these dvd's to work? Has anyone had a similar problem? Or does anyone know a suitable solution.

    My System is:
    Windows XP
    Pentium 2.4gig
    768MB RAM
    DVD Writer - Pioner 105
Writting software used was Alcohol 120% or dvd decrypter (Doesn't make a difference)

    PLEASE HELP
Working...
